At least you get hate mail. I've been longing for some serious hate mail for a long time now, but nothing I say generates enough honest feeling to get me hated. I think people sense that I'm a nice guy deep down, even if I try to fool them on the surface.

All I can say - is that it indeed has been an honour to be part of this contest, and it's been a very fun experience...plus I got to "meet" some really great writers.

This idea of Knucklehead's was awesome...not unlike his writing.

In my opinion, everyone who has participated in this contest...by writing or READING here, has already won. Anyway you look at this, it is indeed a win-win situation. :)

Hi everyone. I'll be addressing some of this when I post the results tomorrow, but here's my two cents:

"Observational humor" is a pretty broad category. Mariann's focus was on History Channel-type shows and their degradation (so to speak). She used her history teacher as background, but that wasn't the main focus.

This contest has proven to have a few flaws, but the work of the bloggers in regard to content is a non-issue. They've all done a great job and deserve to be read and recognized. Unfortunately, as is the case with virtually everything that involves humans, a few individuals will focus on being negative rather than positive. I think it's a bad idea to give those folks any consideration whatsoever.

I made a blog which incorporated the fact my love of watching The History Channel and other documentaries were instilled in me by my teacher's quirky teaching manners. Regardless of how they got there I have a love of history and documentaries. Nowadays these are both getting replaced with reality shows...and true interesting documentaries are few and far between. THAT was the gist of my observation...but there are also causative factors behind why one watches anything; my love of history was given to me by my History teacher (directly or indirectly responsible on his part)...I wanted to acknowledge him...there's always one person out there who can say or do something which imprints in someone's life that which was not there before. My love of documentaries were because of the wondrous ways he'd teach. I find it pertains completely. The absurdity you speak of is not his fault but the impetus...the spark...was there...he gave it to me. What I do with it has nothing more to do with the teacher at that point; the love is now IN me. Without him, I dare say, I wouldn't care what the History Channel is doing and what they are playing...but because of him...I do.
The "teacher" tribute was also a backstory to the blog...and was a secondary motive. The blog was about documentaries turning into reality shows. No one said I could not intertwine the two. Stories are seldom one-dimensional. This one wasn't.

Eva - If I would have known, I would have held off posting my recent "Viagra" blog and submitted it here...but, that didn't happen (headache yesterday didn't help matters, either).

Plus I wanted to publicly acknowledge my teacher...it is true that one person can really make a difference in your life. Knucklehead's contest here made it possible for me to reach more people to let them know that. :)
